Day 275 - Lijar - Spain
02 09 2012

Back in Algodonales, Sunday morning we arrive at Take off on Mount Lijar. The flight was short but a good one to get into the swing of things.

The afternoon flight turned into a bit of an adventure with strong thermals and solid climbs to approx 7200ft ASL - cross country came to mind.

We all set off in the general direction of the twin peaks. One of my goals this holiday was to fly the twin peaks, something I haven't yet done at Algo, then to Ronda la Vieja (to beat Eddie's previous flight where I bombed out.

I topped out my climb over Lijar and went on glide to the twin peaks, losing height but hoping the peaks would provide lift, I arrived with good height and took the climb, text book thermal off the peaks. I stuck with the thermal and drifted with it on my way to Rona la Vieja, it was well in my sights now and I knew I would clear 'Eddie's bar'.

Over the bar, and over Ronda la Vieja! oh yes, the town of Ronda itself was now on my radar and I found more thermals..

I arrived to Ronda and quickly sussed that I had to land just short, or fly right over the town, safety first! I sussed out my landing field very early but got another thermal and spotted a main road heading towards Olvera so set off.

I saw the train coming down the 'road' so had a quick re-think, there were no other roads for a retrieve so I turned back towards Ronda and headed for the original field I had picked, landed in a string valley breeze going slightly backwards for somewhere near a 25km cross country - result!

Mark arrived in the retrieve van just before I had got to the road - perfect.

There is a Google Earth Tracklog of the flight available here
